Roger Maskew Friends of Lewes

Initially qualified as an Architect, followed by experience in the private sector. Worked for a firm of international consultants, initially in London, followed by three years in the Middle East. Completed a postgraduate Town Planning course, and awarded an MA in Urban Design. Worked for East Sussex County Council on a wide range of Building and Public Realm projects, including a 20mph traffic scheme in Lewes and the upgrading of Cliffe High Street.

Alfie Stroud Historic England

A Partnerships Team Leader for London & the South East at Historic England. The team he co-leads uses project development, research and grants to find regeneration solutions in heritage buildings and sites, aiming to bring growth and better placemaking.

Alfie has over a decade of experience in planning for the historic environment, including at Camden Council and in consultancy, and is a full member of the IHBC. After degrees in history, Alfie completed the Erasmus Mundus '4 Cities' joint Master’s in Urban Studies.

Cany Ash Ash Sakula

Co-founder and partner of Ash Sakula Architects, one of Britain’s leading housing and regeneration architects. The Malings, won the top 2016 Housing Design Award with 76 homes with compact terrace typologies, celebrating this month its 10-year anniversary. The Wickside project with 31 shared roof terraces and 475 homes was Overall Winner in the New London Architecture Awards in 2017.

The practice is especially proud of being one of the architects to kickstart the ambitious 700 home Phoenix neighbourhood for the developers Human Nature in Lewes.

Leo Hammond (Chair) UDG and Haringey Council

An Urban Designer with 25 years' professional experience across Urban Design, Planning, Architecture and Public Realm Design in the private and public sector. He works as an Urban Design and Regeneration Manager at Haringey Council and a visiting Tutor at UCL, where he teaches on the Urban Design MA.

Leo is on the Executive Committee of the Urban Design Group (UDG), as well as being the past Chair, and is on the Editorial Committee of the Urban Design Journal. He is also a member of the Design South East and the Greater Cambridge Design Review Panels.

Leo’s family live in Lewes, and he has been visiting for over 30 years.
